Turner Foundation, Inc.

Protection of the environment has long been a cause close to Ted Turner's heart. He founded the Turner Foundation, Inc. in 1990 as an organization committed to maintaining the planet's natural resources and improving the quality of the natural systems that sustain all life.
"How much pollution is acceptable, or how many more species will we allow to pass into extinction?" Turner asked when he first founded the organization. He believes so emphatically in protecting the environment from further degradation that he views it as no less than, "an effort to ensure the survival of the human species."
The Turner Foundation is a family foundation governed by a Board of Trustees. Turner is the Chairman of the Board and his five children – Laura Turner Seydel, Teddy Turner, Rhett Turner, Beau Turner, and Jennie Turner Garlington – make up the rest of the board.
The Foundation supports efforts to protect terrestrial and marine habitats, protect biodiversity, reduce toxins in the environment, advocate for cleaner and efficient energy sources, protect water and air quality, and develop practices to promote sustainable living.
Since its inception, the Turner Foundation has granted to hundreds of organizations, including National Wildlife Federation, Energy Future Coalition, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, Environmental Working Group, Environmental Defense, and Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.
